THE WESTERN CAPE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM:
SUB DIRECTORATE TOURISM: FAIR BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
AND THE CAPE TOURIST GUIDES ASSOCIATION
INVITATION:-
To all interested tourism related persons in the Western Cape Province,

Your input and comment is called for regarding suggested new legislation pertaining to the registration of tourism businesses, and the establishment of the Provincial body for Tourist Guides. This notification is to request your attendance to meetings for this purpose.
1. The Provincial Government is tasked by the regulations of the Second Tourism Amendment Act, Act 70 of 2000, to determine if it is necessary and desirable to register ALL tourism related businesses in the province. This process has been done in most other provinces. The WCPG has now tasked the Cape Tourist Guide Association (CTGA) to undertake a survey to determine that this is desirable for our province.
Part of the meetings will be the completion of questionnaires to ensure your inputs are received and reported to the WCPG for consideration in their decisions.
2. At a meeting held in January, the national federation for tourist guide associations was re-formed. The new federation will be called the Federation of South African Tourist Guide Associations (FSATGA) and CTGA is represented at this forum. Only representative associations can join the national federation, not individuals. CTGA has been tasked to assist in the formation of a provincial body that will look after the interests of all tourist guides in the province as well as National representation.
CTGA will assist and grow structured regional and specialist branches and assist in growing tourist guiding as a formalised profession throughout the region.

In view of the time constraints we ask you please to reply as soon as possible. The meetings will take place as follows:
