Alien Flora Eradication Cederberg.
Further pre work is commencing with the elimination of Oleander [Nerium Oleander – Selonse Roos] from the Doring River and its tributaries. This plant is one of the most poisonous known to man. Yet it is still planted purely because of its ornamental value.
This is a long term project with an expectation of several phases – the initial planning phase will be over a 3 season period, with the first investigatory eradication to commence after next winter once the water levels have dropped in the Doring River.
The plant is reaching rampant proportions in the Doring River network after being introduced to the area over 100 years ago Thanks to assistance from Schutz Marais there is now also a possibility of involvement from the University of Stellenbosch in eliminating this plant from the Cederberg.
Should you consider becoming a long term volunteer in this initiative then please contact me.
